Hołownia invited lawmakers to attend a Chopin concert next evening, saying that house proceedings would pause for an hour to allow members to take part.

“Music by Chopin will also resonate here in the Sejm,” he told reporters, referring to the lower house of parliament.

The piano will be installed after the first stage of Chopin competition performances concludes on Tuesday night.

Earlier in the day, Chopin’s handwritten score of The Messenger was displayed in Poland's parliament for the first time, state news agency PAP reported.

Acquired this year by the Warsaw-based Fryderyk Chopin Institute, the piece is about "a swallow as a messenger of hope, not a member of parliament," as its Polish title Poseł might suggest, Hołownia joked.

Lawmakers will also be invited to watch the film Chopin, Chopin! by Polish director Michał Kwieciński and visit Warsaw’s Chopin Museum, he added.

Hołownia announced that he would personally present the competition’s second prize in two weeks.

He also said he had asked staff to replace the chamber’s summoning chime with a Chopin motif on Thursday, the final day of this week’s parliamentary session.

The Chopin Competition runs until October 23, with 84 pianists from around the world vying for its top honours.

China has the largest representation with 28 entrants, followed by Poland and Japan, each with 13.

The competition's winner will be announced on October 20.

First held in 1927, the Warsaw event is among the world’s most prestigious piano competitions.

Past winners include Maurizio Pollini, Martha Argerich, Garrick Ohlsson, Krystian Zimerman, Rafał Blechacz and Bruce Liu.
